Kazakhstan to build more than 30 renewable energy generation installations in 4 years

In Kazakhstan, more than 30 renewable energy sources are to be built in four years. This was announced today at a press conference in the Government by the Vice-Minister of Energy Anatoly Shkarupa.

According to him, this year there were two auction sessions. In the spring session, 16 projects were selected, of which over 100 MW are wind and biogas power plants, 68 MW are solar and over 10 MW are hydroelectric power plants. In the autumn trading, another 8 solar, 6 wind and 3 hydroelectric power stations with a total capacity of over 650 MW will be built throughout the country in four years. It is assumed that the total investment will exceed 300 billion tenge.

"The auction showed a great interest of both local and foreign companies. 113 companies from nine countries, including Kazakhstan, China, Russia, Turkey, France, Bulgaria, Italy, the United Arab Emirates, the Netherlands, took part in the auction," Shkarupa said.

According to the ministry, the country operates 429 MW of renewable energy capacities. By the end of the year, with the launch of new projects, their capacity will increase. Zhambyl oblast remains the leader in the development of clean energy in recent years. Both wind and solar power plants work there. Hydroelectric power plants are being built, mainly in Almaty region, the department specified.
