LPG price up in Kazakhstan

In Kazakhstan, from January 1, 2018, the maximum wholesale price for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) has grown from 34,319 tenge to 38,701 tenge, Kazpravda.kz reports.

"In Kazakhstan, from January 1, 2018, the maximum wholesale price for LPG has been increased from KZT34,319 to KZT38,701 per ton without VAT. It should be noted that the estimated price for LPG, according to the Rules of determining the marginal prices, should make 52,538.27 tenge per ton without VAT, "the press service of the RK Energy Ministry said.

At the same time, the release notes that the Ministry, in accordance with paragraph 14 of the Rules, keeps it at the level of the approved maximum price for the wholesale of liquefied petroleum gas on the domestic market for 2014, that is, at KZT38,701 per ton without VAT.

The Ministry of Energy explained that the price increase is caused by the growth of the world price, since the wholesale price for LPG depends on quotations on the international market.

According to the Law of Kazakhstan "On Gas and Gas Supply", the Ministry of Energy, on agreement with the Ministry of National Economy, approves the wholesale price for the LPG on a quarterly basis, which operates throughout the territory of Kazakhstan.

It is also stressed that the retail price on Kazakhstan’s domestic market is established by market participants and is not regulated by the ministry.

According to the monitoring data of the local executive bodies in December 2017, the lowest retail prices were in Aktobe oblast - 45-49 tenge / liter and Mangistau oblast - 45-50 tenge / liter. The highest prices were in Karaganda oblast - 70-75 tenge / liter, Almaty oblast - 72-75 tenge / liter, South Kazakhstan oblast - 65-72 tenge / liter, East Kazakhstan oblast 68-75 tenge / liter and Almaty 68 -75 tg / liter.

After January 1, according to the monitoring data submitted by the local executive bodies, retail prices in the Aktobe region are 55 tenge / liter and Mangistau oblast - 52-65 tenge / liter.

In other regions, the growth of LPG retail prices is not observed.

At the same time, it should be noted that the LPG consumption in the domestic market is growing every year, for example: in 2016 it was 720 000 tons and in 2017 - 953 000 tons (an increase of 32%).
